With the desire to gratify and fulfill the vision of our Honourable Prime Minister’s vision of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharata Abhiyan’; the Excel Industries, Pidilite Industries Ltd (PIL) and Mamata group have together formed a unique consortium with a unified interest to build a technologically competitive and viable platform for the production and processing of selected seaweeds of commercial interest.
Our major objective is to gain the associated economic and ecological benefits to the coastal communities. On 22nd October a pilot model for land based cultivation has been formally launched at Mundra. The benefits of developing and promoting an indigenous seaweed industry are manifold, ranging from societal development, employment generation, an ocean-based industry, import substitute and export potential.
Indian Centre for Climate and Societal Impact Research (ICCSIR), Mandvi- Katchchh and Pidilite industries ltd.(PIL) landmark Initiative - Agriculture-Horticulture development Center, Manar, District Bhavnagar are working shoulder to shoulder for the sea weed development and seaweed farming in offshore, onshore, seaweed processing, value addition, marketing, etc. in the state of Gujarat. PIL is also entering into a MOU with CSIR-CSMCRI, Bhavnagar in their pursuit to impart training, Learning, Capacity building and value additive sea weed projects.

Recently, the Central Government also allotted special financial support Rs 640 Cr for the five years 2020-2025 to support and strengthen various sectoral activities that substantially increase the production of seaweeds and indigenous processing capabilities. Pidilite initiative at Manar centre also linearly working with ICCSIR for land & sea base seaweed cultivation and R&D based value added products development. Pidilite, Manar centre is also involved in the activity of identification of beneficiaries for seaweed cultivation, training, skill development, capacity building and linking beneficiaries to seaweed processing industries.
