ICCSIR is actively engaged in seaweed farming activity. First time in India, land based seaweed cultivation at pilot stage is going on under control conditions at Mundra, Gujarat. ICCSIR is key player in development of economically viable and easy handling seaweed cultivation technology that can be adapted and replicated by fisherman and Coastal farmer community as extra income source to improve their livelihood.

ICCSIR is also engaged in the downstream processing of seaweed biomass for value added product development. This indeed gives benefit to fisherman and Coastal farmer community as ICCSIR will confirm the buyback of produced biomass from them.

Ultimate goal of the initiative is to nourish fisherman and Coastal farmer community by creating extra income for them as well as agriculture, food, dairy, animal husbandry etc. areas with value added products.
